Weekly Developer Update #3 & #4

Welcome to Cosmicrafts WDU #3 & #4. We delayed and decided to merge both weeks since we have been working hard on all the new features we are adding this month. Thus, we wanted you to have a complete idea of how Multiplayer, White paper and roadmap will look in the near future. These features will be critical in the next few months so it’s really important for this project to get as much feedback as you can, since this changes will affect the game. But feat not, commanders! Governance will be key to fix anything you want out or implemented in Cosmicrafts. Thank you for reading!

PROGRAMMING — Multiplayer and Multilang

The goal for the next few days is to polish everything we have done so far, and thus be able to focus and prepare the game for the development of its multiplayer.

Speaking of Multiplayer. We have several proposals to research so we can choose the best option for its development. We will have a great challenge creating a multiplayer platform that works within Dfinity technology, but as we have already had past experience creating a multiplayer environment, we feel that it will not be impossible at all. We ran some benchmarks with different tools within Dfinity and that helped us figure out which could be the most viable possible option.

An important matter that we also worked on last week was to define the translation processes of the languages ​​of the game, so that it was as orderly as possible. This is because at first there were many conflicts with the integration of the first translation of the game, which was somewhat incomplete and some details needed to be polished. Now that we have a series of effective steps, we hope to be able to include new languages ​​in future versions, both in-game and on the website.

LOGIN, SECURITY, LOADING TIMES, NFTs & TOKEN

Previously, the game was accessed from a our regular web page, cosmicrafts.com, which made players leave IC to play, this the game was not actually on the blockchain.

Currently it is possible to put the game directly running in a canister, managing to have it 100% on the Internet Computer environment.

While doing this we had some setbacks and we got stuck in a limit that exists for the data load in the canisters, however we found a way to solve it and we were able to get the current version that you can already try!

Loading times were also optimized and we will work in the near future to improve them even more!

For the next version we will work on eliminating the password requirement to log in, which is redundant as we already have access with II (thanks to the users who gave us this feedback! We appreciate any other comments that you like to contribute).

In addition we are working on improvements on responsiveness for different devices on the website (so game can be played 100% on mobiles) and we are laying the foundations for the first NFTs!

These changes we are working on are expected to be deployed approximately in two weeks. As soon as they are ready, we will make the official announcement.

NFTs

We have previously announced the creation of NFTs that will be directly in-game elements such as ships that will be available to choose from in each game.

Today, we are working on what will be the basis of be able to create the NFTs, and this week we began to do the tests to create the first ones! Our plan is to had it done before the end of the week and make the official announcement so that we can reward our most active community members as a thanks for all the great support they have provided us so far

In addition, the bases of what Multiplayer will be, we are at a very early stage at this point, but every week we will be informing you until we have the official announcement about the date on which you can test it.

We continue working on WEB improvements, will be implemented in the next two to three days and some features will be deployed within the next following weeks, as always your comments are welcome and anything you don´t like (or something you really like and want more of that) you can comment on them through our official networks to take them into account!

WHITE PAPER, ROADMAP, COSMIC ROAD, SPIRAL TOKEN & MORE…

We’re working on a World Class White Paper with all possible details about how the game and its economy will work.

It’s a lot of information and a lot of critical decisions that will ultimately affect the fate of the project.

So, please let me introduce you to some of the concepts about what game and blockchain mechanics we’ll have.

The Cosmic Road

Will be a special progression seasonal-map for players to play that will enable them to navigate through and earn NFTs on the way. Think about those Bonus Levels on classic games, where you cruise your way up to earn extra coins and lives, but instead, you earn Tokens and free NFTs!

You will get Cosmic Road Tokens while playing and ranking through multiplayer, after earning those coins, then you will be able to trade them for unique and seasonal NFTs of your choice. And why not, you could also trade them for game currency.

Each character will have its own rank on multiplayer, and rank will add up to its Cosmic Road tokens for the season.

Game Asset Manager

The purpose of a Game Asset Manager is to create and deliver NFTs usable in game.

The way it works is by creating NFTs randomly through game rewards such as Missions, Cosmic Road, Esports or Special Events.

It also can upgrade NFTs by merging duplicates.

Spiral token

The Spiral is the game currency and governance token but it also has some interesting tokenomic such as:

  • Auto Deflationary as it burns on every transaction
  • Limited amount of Spirals produced each year or cycle, mined every block by staking
  • Community Pool created to fund community projects related to Cosmicrafts through governance

GAME MECHANICS & ART

Tutorial needs some adjustments on timing and signaling but it will be the base of a Single Campaign Game Mode.

A Campaign is important to tell lore about characters, introduce new expansions, factions and units.

As for Art, the next challenge is to create 2 new environments or battlegrounds and experiment with objects colliding with the ships.

So we’ll be playing the next update in 2 different paced environments, a slow and a faster one.

A video trailer for the game was needed as we’re looking to attract more players and investors when multiplayer goes live. We are working to improve it.

We’re also improving our logo and social media content, creating emotes and rendering ships for our first NFT sale.

We love that our community is contributing to build the game by giving us their feedback and suggestions that we always consider.
