Blockchain Devblog #2 — BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPMENT
Hi everyone!
In the previous blog I have shared an improvement that is being developed on the Internet Computer network which in my opinion will lead to many improvements in general! However, this time I will share a more personal topic with you, I will talk to you about how I started my life on the blockchain.
When I was a teenager, around 2012, with a lot of free time in the afternoons and a lot of curiosity, I started reading about the black market. It was a place where they sold everything that cannot be offered on the normal web and their currency was a decentralized virtual currency, impossible to track. This intrigued me, since the Internet is increasingly traceable with everything you have done, so I began to investigate the cryptocurrency that sounded a lot in this dark environment, the Bitcoin.
I found out how a decentralized transaction works, how wallets can be created and accessed without using personal data. But something that was not very clear at that time was how to buy and sell this virtual currency, it seemed hardly accessible to anyone who was not a user of the dark web. Also by then I was attracted to owning a cryptocurrency but as a teenager without much money, the 100 dollars that each bitcoin cost at that time was ridiculous and with the volatility it still has, less could I bet my money of months in a single currency. If only I had invested hehe but hey! what was not done cannot be changed.
After a while I became interested again while I was in college. The cryptocurrency was already around $ 500 and I had a new RX480, the kind that became popular for mining at that time, so I did. I started putting my GPU to mine and in a little over a month I got around 5 cents of Bitcoin. By that time the coin had passed the 1000 dollars, it was crazy, I waited a little longer and the coin went up to almost 3000. Everyone said that the bubble was going to explode at any moment and that it was going to fall below 1000 again .
At that time I had around $ 150 in Bitcoin and Steam still accepted payments with this cryptocurrency (ironically a few days ago they just banned any blockchain related games and at that time they were even accepting payments with Bitcoin).
It was summer, I was on vacation from college and I could afford more than 10 good games in the summer sales, so I used my 5 cents to buy games, great haha, if I had kept it right now they would be worth more than 3000 USD, but I enjoyed them and most importantly I learned more how to manage this world of digital wallets, transaction costs and the decentralized network that instead of vanishing, it continues to grow.
Later I made a small game where I paid satoshis to the players, but that story is for another week. Now I just want to thank you for your attention.
Please let me know how you started in this world!
Share your stories, I am sure each of you has really interesting and unique experience!
Greetings and until next time!
